Italian banking giant Unicredit revealed a two-year deal with Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) to provide electronic payment solutions to its largest markets.
Munich-based G&D is a provider of banknote and security printing, smart cards, and cash handling systems.
Set to commence as of 1 January 2014, the contract will see G&D providing Unicredit with its newest line of EMV cards, including dual-interface cards.
The provider will also be able to furnish Unicredit with services ranging from technical consultancy to card personalisation.
Commenting on the deal, the bank stated it was searching for a global solutions company able to leverage a portfolio of innovative systems to provide it with high-quality and reliable products.
The deal is set to confirm G&D’s primacy in Italy, Poland, and Germany, said to be the most important of Unicredit’s 20 European national markets.
