China UnionPay's wholly-owned subsidiary UnionPay International, in collaboration with International Cards Company (ICC), has started issuing UnionPay cards in Jordan.
The new card, which is the first multi-currency (dinar, USD and RMB) chip card, is claimed to be safer than magnetic stripe card and also more flexible for its multi-currency settlement function. It will be accepted at all the ATMs and POS terminals, and is expected to meet the payment demands of tourists visiting the country.
The card will be accepted in the UnionPay global network across 160 countries and regions.
The collaboration provides Jordanian residents and enterprises new payment options. Cardholders can also avail exclusive UnionPay offers and privileges, according to UnionPay.
In future, both companies will issue UnionPay cards in other countries and regions in the Middle East.
