UnionPay International has partnered with Sumitomo Mitsui Card Company and Ctrip.com to introduce a co-branded credit card in Japan in June this year.
To be jointly issued by the partners, the card is set to feature various services and benefits such as discounts on hotel bookings, bonus points and free travel insurance.
The new card will also include several UnionPay offers and the earned bonuses can be used to redeem discount codes for booking hotel or flight on Trip.com.
In addition to the UnionPay global acceptance network, the card can be used through UnionPay Online Payment function.
Sumitomo Mitsui is a Japanese credit card firm, while Ctrip is a China-based online travel company with travel booking services in Japan. Ctrip rolled out its new brand Trip.com in the country this year.
UnionPay cards are currently accepted at approximately 700,000 merchant locations and more than 50% of all ATMs in Japan. A total of more than 200,000 UnionPay cards have been issued in the country till date.
