UnionPay International has partnered with Unicre, a Portugese credit card issuer and acquirer, and SIBS, a provider of payment solutions, to expand the acceptance of UnionPay cards by merchants in Portugal to 80% by the end of this year.

Under the partnership, UnionPay will launch the UnionPay card acceptance in all the 50,000 merchants under Unicre via the SIBS network and successively in merchants under other acquirers on the SIBS network.
The agreement with SIBS will allow the acceptance of payments with UnionPay cards at MULTIBANCO network of POS terminals.
UnionPay cards will be accepted in hotels, restaurants and other daily consumer places as well as in department stores and airport duty-free shops.
The collaboration with Unicre and SIBS will allow more cardholders from China and other regions of the world to make purchases in local merchants.
