UnionPay International and Japanese restaurant chain Skylark have signed an agreement under which Skylark will accept UnionPay cards at its 3,000 locations in Japan.
Skylark has over 20 brands including Gusto, Bamiyan, Jonathan’s and Meng’an.
UnionPay believes that the agreement will further improve its acceptance network in Japan while helping to strengthen UnionPay’s localisation in the market.
Currently, more than 50% of ATMs and approximately 500,000 merchants in Japan accept UnionPay, covering duty-free stores, department stores, appliance chain stores and cosmeceuticals shops.
Additionally, all the stores of 7-11, Lawson, FamilyMart, Circle K Sunkus and MINISTOP in Japan support UnionPay payment.
UnionPay International, a subsidiary of China UnionPay, has enabled card acceptance in 162 countries and regions with issuance in 42 countries and regions in with more than 1500 institutions worldwide.
