UnionPay International, a global subsidiary of China’s only domestic bank card organization UnionPay, has partnered with Uzbekistan’s bankcard switch organization UZcard, to pave the way for acceptance of UnionPay cards in Uzbekistan.
The collaboration calls for the UnionPay cards, with numbers starting with 62, to be accepted at all the ATMs and PoS terminals across Uzbekistan within three years.

All the 26 commercial banks in Uzbekistan are members of UZcard, which offers switching and clearing services for about 183,000 POS terminals and 2,000 ATMs. Additionally, UZcard offers its own card brand, UZcard.
UnionPay noted that the collaboration will bring convenient and secure payment services to its cardholders visiting the country, besides helping to elevate the e-payment level of the market.
UZcard Deputy General Manager Farrun Ziyaev said that the capacity for accepting UnionPay will bring more opportunities to local banks and merchants, and will provide better services for visitors.
