United Bank for Africa (UBA), a pan-African financial group based in Nigeria, has partnered with Mastercard to launch a new e-payment solution, MasterPass Quick Response (QR) Bot.
The new UBA Masterpass QR Merchant App, developed by Mastercard in alliance with Facebook, is intended to facilitate digital payments between micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and their customers throughout Nigeria and other African markets.
Available on Facebook Messenger, the QR bot can be used to quickly, easily and instantly pay for goods and services by scanning with MasterPass.
The e-payment service does not charge any enrolment fee and can be used across devices, channels and a range of interconnected payment solutions.
Customers can also use the solution for purchases on merchant apps, in-store or online by utilising MasterPass to scan the QR code generated by the merchants.
UBA group executive for digital & consumer banking Anant Rao said: “The innovative new platform enables MSMEs in Nigeria receive digital payments from millions of customers by simply scanning.
“It is 100% self-service and generation of the QR is immediate. Acceptance of payments can begin immediately the QR is generated, it is making banking simple.
“Our partnership with Mastercard enables us to deploy safe digital solutions for customers, and the UBA Masterpass QR Merchant App is just such a solution.”
