United Bank for Africa (UBA) has launched a new MasterCard-branded debit card in Gabon to financially support the country’s citizens.
The new offering, Debit MasterCard, is expected to promote cashless payments and provide users with a quick, convenient and secure payment alternative.
Using the new debit card, the bank customers can have full control over their funds and access funds directly from a savings or current account, and manage all their transactions in real time.
The card is issued instantly, once a user visits any UBA branch across Gabon and submits application. Upon issuance, the debit card, featuring chip and PIN, can be used immediately.
Furthermore, plans are on to make the debit card available electronically through the UBA website.
UBA group head of digital banking Yinka Adedeji said: “As a group, we are committed to driving financial inclusion and empowering businesses across Africa, and our partnership with MasterCard enables us to deploy safe electronic solutions to the benefit of the entire country.”
MasterCard vice president and area business head of FSSA Mohamed Elbelamachi said: “In order to drive financial inclusion we need to ensure all Africans feel confident that their money is secure.
“The UBA Debit MasterCard introduces the latest global payment standards with EMV Chip and PIN technology embedded into the card making it difficult for fraudsters to duplicate your credentials.”
