Visa has launched a pilot of its sensory branding for merchants, terminal manufacturers and developers.
US point-of-sale terminal manufacturers Equinox Payments, Ingenico Group, Poynt, and Verifone have already signed up to trial the technology.
The technology, which comprises unique sound, animation and haptic (vibration) cues, will come as a software development kit (SDK) for iOS, Android, and Web solutions on the Visa Developer Platform.
Visa cited a recent consumer study by IPG Lab, where 81% of the participants said they prefer merchants deploying sound or animation.
Visa head of global merchant solutions Jack Forestell said: “Our research has shown that Visa’s sensory cues signal speed, trust and convenience among consumers. As new payment experiences proliferate, we are helping our partners assure their customers that their transaction has been quickly and securely completed, no matter how they prefer to pay.”
