Mobile operator Vivacom and payments application developer Cellum Bulgaria are to launch a service that will enable customers in Bulgaria to purchase and use e-tickets on the subway via their mobile phones.
The e-ticketing service will be integrated into CellumPay, a mobile wallet solution launched by Cellum Bulgaria in December 2012.
Vivacom customers can pay for a subway ticket using a bank card or by adding the amount to their monthly account.
The e-ticket will be issued as an encrypted QR code that is delivered to their phone. Once accessed, it can be validated at dedicated scanners by the subway entrance gates.
The introduction of the electronic ticket is expected to happen in early 2014.
