Canadian interbank network Interac is expanding online and in-store debit payment options for customers of Walmart Canada.
These customers can checkout with Interac Debit for In-App and In-Browser Payments on proprietary wallets from early next year.
At present, they can pay with the tap of a debit card or smartphone with Interac Flash at Walmart’s PoS terminals in-store.
Walmart Canada chief information officer Nicolai Salcedo said: “We listen to our customers and want them to have even more choices for how they pay for their items. This is part of our ongoing effort to make shopping at Walmart easy, safe and seamless, especially during these challenging times.”
Transactions with Interac Debit for in-app and in-browser payments have reported an average month-over-month growth of 22% since the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis this March.
Interac chief commercial officer William Keliehor said: “The collaboration will give Walmart customers more debit payment options, allowing them to transact using their own money within the channel of their choice.
“Given Walmart’s size, scope, and scale in the domestic retail market, this working relationship signals increased momentum for the continued expansion of Interac Debit for In-App and In-Browser Payments in Canada.”
