Wells Fargo has collaborated with wearable fitness device maker Fitbit to enable its customers make mobile payments using the Fitbit Pay available on Fitbit Ionic smartwatch.
Fitbit Ionic, launched in October 2017, is Fitbit’s first health and fitness smartwatch. The product is compatible with Android, iOS and Windows smartphones.
Fitbit Pay will enable Wells Fargo customers to make purchases at merchants with near-field communication (NFC)-enabled payment terminals.
All transactions made via Fitbit Pay with Wells Fargo cards will be monitored by the bank’s risk and fraud detection systems.
Wells Fargo head of virtual channels Jim Smith said: “Increasingly, our customers are choosing mobile to manage their finances and make payments. In fact, in May 2017, Wells Fargo had more active mobile customers than online ones for the first time ever.
“As customer behaviour and preferences continue to shift, we’re pleased to provide more options to conveniently make payments from mobile devices and wearables like Fitbit Ionic.”
