Money transfer service provider Western Union
has teamed up with Italian banking group Intesa Sanpaolo to offer
remittance services via the bank’s ATM network.
In June this year, the money-transfer service
will be available across 7,200 of Intesa Sanpaolo’s ATMs and in the
months thereafter, the service will migrate to 700 standalone
kiosks inside bank branches and via internet and mobile
banking.

The agreement is claimed to mark the first
time that remittances can be sent abroad via ATMs by
account-holders in Italy.
“This agreement marks a strong and mutually
beneficial alliance between Western Union and Banca Intesa
Sanpaolo,” said Jan Hillered, Western Union senior vice president
for Europe and CIS.
“The partnership aims at the acquisition of
new customers in electronic channels. Already we have seen good
growth in this segment, suggesting that the market is keen to adopt
innovative money-transfer solutions.”
In order to use the remittance services
consumers must have accounts with any bank belonging to the Intesa
Sanpaolo Group or own a SuperFlash prepaid card, which can be
obtained through the bank branch or online.
