Western Union Company (WU) has rolled out a new mobile money transfer service in the Ivory Coast in collaboration with the MTN Group.
Building upon the existing mobile money collaboration between the companies in Uganda, the new service will enable subscribers of MTN mobile money in Ivory Coast to receive a WU money transfer transaction on their mobile phones.
The new offering, which strengthens the width of Western Union’s payout options in Ivory Coast, allows consumers to receive funds at approximately 900 WU agent locations across the nation.
Western Union Digital senior vice president and general manager Khalid Fellahi said: "Western Union continues to expand its mobile footprint and deliver an exceptional customer experience across retail, mobile and online platforms.
"Furthermore, Western Union seeks to promote global economic opportunity by bridging gaps in the traditional financial services system, and strives to provide consumers with access to Western Union services any way and any time they choose."
MTN Mobile Money had a customer base of over 16 million in 15 countries, as of March 2014. The service allows customers to carry out local and international money transfers and make utility payments and purchases.
