Western Union has teamed up with JTB to build a new distribution channel for the promotion of GlobalPay for Students.
GlobalPay enables students to pay their tuition to academic institutions in their local currency directly through their mobile phones.

Through GlobalPay, educational institutions can also track these payments in real-time.
Leveraging its network of connections to Japanese educational institutions, JTB will introduce the institutions to GlobalPay.
Moreover, the partnership makes JTB the acquirer for credit card payment options under the platform.
JTB International Education and Exchange Ken Nakano said: “The number of foreign students accepted by Japanese institutions of higher education and institutions of Japanese language education is currently approximately 270,000, and it is expected that the number of foreign students will continue to increase in the future in conjunction with the policy of accepting foreign students.
“In such an environment, the remittance solution GPFS used around the world is considered to be a very valuable and essential service for both educational institutions and international students.”
GlobalPay was first launched in Japan in 2017, and is used by universities, language schools and professional schools across the country.
The tie-up between JTB and Western Union is said to achieve the Japanese government’s goal of accepting 300,000 foreign students by next year.
