Western Union has teamed up with Cebuana Lhuillier, a micro-financial service provider in the Philippines, for cross-border fund transfers.
The move will enable Philippine people to send and receive Western Union money transfers from Cebuana Lhuillier locations. The collaboration adds around 2,500 more locations to Western Union’s global network.
The service is expected to be launched in the following weeks.
Western Union Global Network president Jean Claude Farah said: “Western Union and Cebuana Lhuillier understand the importance of connectivity and building relationships, while keeping customers at their core.
“This strategic collaboration and integration of capabilities of two leaders highlights the power of combined assets to meet customer’s needs.”
A subsidiary of PJ Lhuillier, Cebuana Lhuillier offers micro-financial services to more than 30 million clients. The company reaches its customers through its branch network, domestic partners and 1.7 million physical and virtual touchpoints.

The latest collaboration comes days after Western Union entered into a remittance partnership with another Philippine financial services provider called TrueMoney.
The move added 5,000 TrueMoney centres to Western Union’s money transfer service network.
