German payments technology firm Wirecard has collaborated with wearables firm Garmin to make its boon mobile payment solution available to Garmin smartwatch owners.
Wirecard’s boon solution works entirely independent of banks and network operators. Under the latest partnership, boon will be available on Garmin vívoactive 3 and Garmin Forerunner 645 smartwatches for Garmin Pay users in France, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and the UK.
Users in these countries can add their boon cards to Garmin Pay and make purchases with their Garmin smartwatches anywhere Mastercard Contactless is accepted.
Garmin Pay addresses security concerns by ensuring that no user’s card data is shared with merchants or Garmin. As an added security feature, users are allowed to select a personal four-digit PIN code during device set-up.
Wirecard executive vice president consumer solutions Georg von Waldenfels said: “We are proud to announce our partnership with Garmin, offering our customers an even broader range of devices to pay with – this perfectly fits our strategy to offer our consumers utmost freedom of choice when paying.
“Our consumers can now use their digital boon cards while they are out and about being physically active through their favorite smart devices – paying and keeping track of your training has never been so easy.”
