Wirecard has partnered with Slovenian fintech MBILLS to enable the users of mBills to make digital payments.
The payments will process through the Garmin Pay contactless solution.
mBills is a mobile payment app from Slovenian energy and retail company Petrol, which acquired MBILLS in December 2017.
Under the new partnership, customers will be able to link their mBills digital debit card to Garmin Pay. Furthermore, consumers can use their Garmin wearables to carry out both in-store and online contactless transactions globally.
MBILLS director Primož Zupan said: “By combining our mBills app with Garmin, we are able to offer customers an even broader range of devices to pay with, providing more flexibility and freedom for our customers.
“Wirecard’s proven expertise in enabling mobile payments not only on smartphones but also on wearables has been instrumental in our ability to introduce this new option to market.”

By GlobalDataWirecard noted the good market potential for mobile and digital payments in Slovenia. Nearly 80% of the transactions in the country are still conducted using cash.
Wirecard head of sales and digital goods Boris Bongartz said: “Mobile payments are gaining traction worldwide because of their convenience and flexibility.
“By enabling mBills customers to add their digital mBills card to Garmin Pay, consumers do not need their physical wallet nor their smartphone for the payment process – this is how we are further driving the use of digital payment solutions and making it even easier for Slovenian consumers to pay on the go.”
The integration of mBills and Garmin Pay will offer an end-to-end digital payment solution. This will include management of finances, setting transaction limits and activating/blocking payments outside the European Union (EU).
