WHSmith, a British retailer selling books and travel accessories at airports, hospitals, train stations, and highway service areas, has selected Wirecard to support digital payments.
The retailer has more than 1,600 stores and also runs an e-commerce business.
WHSmith group commercial development director Ian Sanders said: “We aim to deliver the best service to our customers, and that includes providing convenient and easy payment methods both online and in-store.
“We are pleased to be working with Wirecard who have offered a tailor-made solution to our business and deliver the latest payment acceptance solutions.”
Under the partnership, more than 900 UK outlets of the retailer will add support for Chinese payment methods.
The move is said to be significant, considering that the number of Chinese travellers to Britain has increased two-fold in the past five years, as per data from the UK Office for National Statistics.
