The payment terminals of Worldline in Germany have started supporting mobile payment platforms Apple Pay as well as Google Pay.

Consumers in Germany can use Apple Pay and Google Pay only if their banks support the payment platforms.

Using their bank’s app, consumers will be able to store details related to their Mastercard and Visa credit card on their smartphone or smartwatch.

Apple Pay and Google Pay addresses security concerns as the card data is not stored on the device or transmitted.

Instead, a unique token is provided to the payment terminal.

As an additional security layer, identity of the user is authenticated through fingerprint or face recognition.

Worldline head of merchant services for Germany Panagiotis Karasavvoglou: “With the acceptance of Apple Pay and Google Pay, Worldline is helping merchants address a broad and emerging customer base that seeks flexibility and security for their payments.

“With the increasing popularity of Apple and Android-capable devices, Worldline is making a valuable contribution to promote mobile payment usage in Germany and help make contactless payment even better.”

The latest move comes shortly after Worldline’s launch of the WL One Commerce Hub.

The hub will serve as a single payment platform for Europe and beyond.
