Amazon has reach in almost every single sector across the world. Aiming to expand its growth,  Amazon has inked a deal with Worldpay for the latter to become its first acquirer.

As its acquirer, Worldpay’s merchants in the US will be able to add Amazon Pay as a checkout option. Furthermore, through Worldpay’s API, online merchants can seamlessly integrate and add Amazon Pay to their website.

Merchants can now enable Amazon Pay, with Worldpay as both their gateway provider and also acquirer.

In addition to a convenient payment experience, the partnership also benefits Amazon. It pulls the technology giant outside of its ecosystem and allows it to tap into Worldpay’s global network.

Vice President of Amazon Pay, Patrick Gauthier, commented:  “At Amazon, we are continuously looking for ways to invent and simplify on behalf of our customers.

“Working with Worldpay will make it easier for merchants to grow their business by providing customers with a familiar and trusted experience throughout the shopping journey.”

Amazon Pay’s frictionless platform

Amazon continues to expand the reach of Amazon Pay to a range of merchant categories. These include consumer electronics, fashion, home, sports and more.

Adding Amazon Pay means that customers gain additional security assurances about the complete journey of their transactions.

This news follows on from the announcement earlier in the week that Fidelity National Information Services (FIS) is acquiring Worldpay for $43m.

Amazon’s set of data is so widely used that it gives it a competitive advantage. All wallets and tech providers claim to offer quicker processes, more security and convenience.

Chief product and marketing officer of Worldpay, Asif Ramji, added: “By teaming up with Amazon, we have an even stronger capacity to enable digital commerce, streamline the checkout experience and drive frictionless payments for our merchants.”

Moreover, the sectors that Amazon operates in are extremely competitive. Branching out with other global networks will drive adoption of Amazon Pay around the world.
