Payment processor WorldPay has opened its first sales office in China to offer its services to Chinese businesses.

The Shanghai office, headed by VP of China business development Tang Kok San, will offer relationship management and corporate support.

Ron Kalifa, WorldPay vice chairman, says: "The Chinese e-commerce market is growing rapidly and there is huge interest from merchants to pursue international opportunities.

"However the global e-commerce landscape is complex, so it’s important that businesses seek expert advice from an experienced international payments provider to successfully navigate new territories.

"Given Worldpay’s global reach and unparalleled number of payment types, we’re the perfect partner to help Chinese customers achieve international success."

WorldPay already has business partnerships with payment brands Alipay and China Union Pay.

Kalifa adds: "Our intention is to build a strong sales presence in China – we have an aggressive recruitment and expansion plan.

"Our immediate goal is to provide Chinese merchants with greater access to international markets. We also look forward to continuing to support our local partners, Alipay and China Union Pay.

"Importantly, our presence on the ground ensures that we continue to strengthen our market understanding as the Chinese e-commerce landscape rapidly evolves."
