Ghanaian mobile financial services aggregator Zeepay has joined forces with payments provider Small World FS to offer mobile money wallets in Ghana.

The mobile money wallet service will enable emigrants across the world to send money directly into Ghanaian bank accounts or local mobile wallets.

Zeepay co-founder Andrew Takyi Appiah said: "For the first time, an African emigrant can send money directly to a Mobile Money Wallet, simply by inputting the recipient’s Mobile Money number."

"This new service gives Mobile Money customers access to cash 24/7 as remittances are sent directly to their mobile wallets. On receiving the funds, Mobile Wallet holders can decide whether to retain money on the wallet, withdraw from a Small World FS agent or ATM.

"Alternatively, customers can use the Zeepay Mobile Payment Ecosystem which currently supports Airtel Money Wallets, to pay for good via their mobile."

According to data from Small World FS, Ghana already receives over $1bn annually in remittances, with over 130 million transactions processed performed via 7 million mobile wallets in the year to date.

Small World FS CEO Nick Day said: "Ghanaian emigrants rely on safe, simple and secure remittance processes to send money home, and this is why we are passionate about working with Zeepay on the Mobile Money Wallet."
